Zahi Hawass: The Tombs of Kai at Giza. Description and Decoration

Kapunesut Kai, referred to in this volume as Kai, built three tombs in the western field of Khufu’s pyramid. The first he built for himself. The two that are presented in this volume he built for his two daughters. The first tomb is beautiful, constructed of stone and filled with scenes and inscriptions as well as a remarkable statue in which he is seated with his son and daughter at his side. The second tomb is built of mudbrick and is remarkable for scenes covering the walls that have no parallels in Old Kingdom tomb decoration. The tomb was in bad condition, and Noha Abdel Hafiez restored it. These two tombs are located next to each other, and nearby was found the tomb of a famous man called Dedi, the boss of Merer, owner of the Wadi al‑Jarf papyri.
