This critical edition brings together 94 texts published in the press of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia between 1921 and 1938. It is a selection from thousands of articles that appeared on the pages of hundreds of titles during the period under review, whose periodicity varied from daily newspapers to yearbooks. The editors’ main intention was to use concrete material to show how the Communist Party communicated with its members, voters, and sympathizers, who were recruited from among representatives of all nationalities living in the state. Thus, the book includes texts in Czech and Slovak as well as translations of articles originally published in German, Hungarian, Ruthenian, and Polish. Each of the contemporary texts is accompanied by extensive notes that provide basic information about the historical context in which it was written. The authors of each published text are also identified, as are all the historical actors the texts refer to.
